Leaving aside the cosmetics, does fitting one actually do anything for the car, aerodynamically wise?

Not unless its actually designed by a professional tuning company or BMW M division where it will be been tried and tested to 'aid' aerodynamics. If this is the case the most smallest of parts will be costly.

All the usual body kit stuff sold left right and centre on a daily basis is just tat with no purpose what so ever.

Have you bought one Sweeneywolf? I've just ordered one, I'm hoping it just fits on (cabriolet) without having to do any mods.

The boot lip spoilers really suit 'verts.. I'd go for it if I were you - Plus, they generally affix with 3M tape - 5 minute job!
