Best way is to scrape the wing mirror against a gate when reversing out the driveway, that's how I did it

They're an a**hole, i couldn't get it off without breaking the clips. If it doesn't feel like its gonna come easy, pop the glass out (very easy), undo the 5 screws that hold the front of the housing to the mirror arm & remove it. This will gain you access to the clips that hold the backing on, you can gently pry them open & pop it off.

Yes its a long winded way round, but you'll be pi**ed off when you break all 4 clips, then have to
a)get another cover & paint it or,
    b)glue it back on.

Rant over. Simple things that end up being ruined by excellent design really pull my pi**er!
