As per the title, can i fit an M rear diffuser straight onto my none M rear bumper or is it a case of changing the whole rear bumper ?

Cheers Dazun, I'm wondering if it's worth doing now as I'm trying to stick with genuine BMW parts but then again the M diffuser does look nice - I guess it just clips on?

Yes, it does slide into place, direct replacement for the smooth curved one you have. You have to take out those centre push in to lock plugs, and pull your one BACKWARDS, push the M style one in, and replace the plugs where you took them out.

There aren't many of the M style ones around, so you'll have to keep an eye out for the 2nd hand ones. RGM used to make them, don't know if they still do tho. I got mine for £15.

Doing a bit of a search on ebay I found this:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/M-style-rear-d...item336031446c

It says will fit all models with standard bumper so it could be the ticket although it looks expensive???

Would I be better of getting one off an M3???

The afterarket ones I was referring to. BMW didn't make them for NON M-tech rear bumpers, so you'll never find an OE one. RGM was the 1st company to replicate it for the NON M bumpers, and was the most common one in the day. There were a few others companies that followed, but RGM sold the most. Now very hard to find 2nd hand. Theres quite a few new ones being sold, but even on Ebay, they're going for quite a penny. Make sure you are getting an ABS plastic unit, NOT the fibreglass copy!! Yes, they DO exist.

So even if you buy a genuine BMW diffuser from an M3, it won't fit a NON M bumper cos it's a little bit longer than the standard curled diffuser you have.
