hi everybody. i read in a recent post that the e36 bootlid spoiler with the light in the middle is the same as the one fitted too the e31-8 series. i posted this in the 8 series section but as yet no response so i thought i'd ask some of you bodywork gurus. there seems too be lots of them on e-bay for the e36 but none for the e31. can anybody confirm this or am i talking boll@*ks.

It would appear so yet its not cross referencing very well on realoem http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partxref.do?part=51712260319 ..The thing to remember too though is the E36 saloon one is different to the E36 coupe one...so if the one didn't fit then the other one might

the same with the door mirrors-it appears they can be interchangeable with E36 ones too...I guess the only way to find out for sure would be to try it

i tried the realoem site and came to the conclusion that they were the same, as they have the same part number. the info i have suggests it's the saloon one that fits. do you know for a fact that they are different? if so what are the differences? are they different sizes. different bolt pattern etc. i didn't want too have too buy one just too find out it's no good. there's nowhere i can go too compare the two together. thanx for your help stk much appreciated mate.

Yes they are definately different-the coupe has a different bootlid to the saloon...many have tried and failed to fit a saloon one to a coupe including AFAIK Steve23002

The E31/E36 use the same fitting kit etc so theoretically its the same part....Ideally you would need someone that is near enough to you with a spare spoiler to compare

Edit: link in post above has been fixed

as i dont have one on my e31 and i was thinking of fitting one, ideally i need both too compare, therein lies the problem. even if i went to my local dealer they wouldn't have them both in stock so that i could compare them.

Close Swaynie-that's as far as I got too -In that link if you click on "details for e36" or the other link there "details for E31" it tells you exactly what it is..Or isn't in which case it's not actually the spoiler...

If someone could measure theirs then post it up then Tony can measure his boot and see if it'll go on

If no-one has by the time I get home then I will measure mine
