Here's a few more pics of that matt-luster blue

Yes that is the same colour and I love the way it changes with the different lighting

If you ever find out what the colour code is, please let us know

All Focus RS500 vehicles will be painted in a standard Panther Black metallic colour, before being shipped to a dedicated 3M facility near Frankfurt, Germany, where a special film will be applied to the bodywork to create the matte black effect.

I Like this colour... Or go with Fords RS Performance Blue

As someone who has done a respray as a hobbyist (not a professional), I will agree with get a pro to do it, and £800 for an Audi tech to do it is a complete bargain as you are normally looking at double that.

The quality of a finish is down to prep, depending on what level you are going depends on the amount of prep, are you going back to bare metal to sort imperfections (cutting out rust and welding in new metal)? It sounds like you are going with a full colour change so you have door & boot shuts to consider along with under the bonnet and around the engine bay. If you stick with the same colour you may get away with just keying the car (essentially scratching the car all over) The prep stage also includes removing the trim, badges etc and unless you intend to remove the windows, you have to be careful masking everything up correctly. Once the metal work is sorted, you need to start building up layers of primer, flatting each layer down, sorting any runs (first few times you will get them) before applying another layer.

Then the spraying of a colour is not easy by any means, you need to get the paint consistency correct, gun pressure correct, spray pattern correct, then you need to stop yourself getting giddy and applying it too quickly. Oh and if the environment isnt correct, you will then have the likes of orange peel to deal with.

The best advice given here that I have seen is the post about go to a scrappy, get a bonnet/wing/door and have a go on that, don't use house of color top coat, just get a gloss black as it will show where you didn't prep fully. Practice and patience is key. If you can, see if a local college is doing a course as mentioned earlier as they will go through each step in detail

That's the tip of the ice berg really rather than a full how to. Learn, practice, learn where you went wrong, have another go, learn about those mistakes.
