    i've seen this mod done on a touring...only in a picture mind...it doesnt look like a plug has been used, i know its always difficult to see how good jobs actually are in photos, a pic can hide a thousand lies and all that...
    i would suggest, as an option, looking into filling the hole with a clear, or coloured resin. not disimilar to that which might be used to repair cracks in glass. there are many types available.
    resin is pretty useful stuff...
