Been reading through a few threads on the subject, mainly for E36's as thats what most have on here.

Quite interested in fitting some to my E30 though. The quick question is, which temperature (Kelvin) is closest to pure white?

I've have a look across eBay, and there are far too many sellers quoting that they're pure white, when the Temperatures range from 4100K to 7200K.

4100K is more yellow than white.
7200K is more blue than white.

All I'm looking for is a happy medium, something around 5200K, would that be about white?

On another subject, while I've got the headlight units out (HUGE thanks to bmwkev for them ) should I look at fitting HID's at the same time, to increase light output? Preferably around the same Temperature, for that pure white look at the front.

    Cheers,
    Steve

Is it possible to upgrade both Dipped and Main to HID's?

I'm guessing I would need 2 sets, as they're sold as a pair, etc...

    Dang...This is gonna get expensive!!

Hmmm, I'll try to work out a deal with the local Motor Factors, maybe they'll take pity on me buying 3 kits

Hi Stevie - forget doing the highs. I did a pre-facelift e30 323 and the beam pattern was all over the place. Smileys will work well and use 6000K as others have advised.

Problem with highs is that HIDs need 5 secs or so to come up to temp. Instead, put in some quality 100w bulbs which are at the same colour temp - you can get them. Wire direct to battery using a new relay. I have done how to on this if you search...

Mark - Please supply a link, the cheapest I've been quoted is £146 with free sidelights for the whole lot.

Aus: I thought 100w were an MOT failure? Although I see where you are going with that. I think Xenon's at 4300K all round is becoming an option now.
