Right just been out to the car to test this wiring ive just knocked up. I left the battery on and just disconnected the stereo completly, i put the wires to the correct pins. I switched the stereo back on was greeted with -DISABLED-, I pressed Mode and it went to CD I pressed Mode again and it went to FM.

Either the battery deffinatly needs to be diconnected for the car to pick up the link to enable AUX mode. Or my stereo isnt compatible for AUX mode.

I have included some pictures of the wires and also a few of my headunit as I cant determine which one I have.

    Thanks

Nathan, did you plug in an MP3 player as well to see if it had this auto detect feature? Wires on their own are not going to do much unless a source is playing for the unit to see.

Yeah I had an ipod plugged into it. My manual says I have a PH8060, but upon looking on the net for the PH8060 I see the connection on the back of the headunit are different to the ones I have on my headunit. Strange.

Any more info on this? I will be doing mine if it works. I assume the band pass filter in the circuit diagram have nothing to do with the head unit detecting the new input? This would give the head unit a resistive and capasitive value across the R+L terminals at all times and help impedance match the head unit to its source. But more usualy it would protect the electronics from high frequency interference that could damage internal electonic components.

Did you manage to get your aux input to work finally.

I am planning on doing a similar upgrade. I have a 01/2003 E39 with non dsp Business Radio with Tape. At the moment the mode button does not show Aux and there is already something plugged in with 2 cables in the port where Aux should go.
I am planning to get some cable and resistor and make my own cable and give it a shot.
I hope I dont end up blowing my radio off.

Please can anyone confirm if this has worked for them.

    cheers
    Ankur
