Hope this thread will be usefull to someone with the same problem I had today...
Right, to short the story, I have done the stupidity (take note, this was an accident!),
of turning the steering wheel more over than the slip ring could take...
As some of you will know, the consequences were a broken ring, so my airbag light came on straight away, and all the steering wheer buttons stop working... I confess my first reaction was... , and I walked out of the car moaning to my self about how stupid I was...
Well, a few momments later, and after calm down, I thougt, well, moaning is not going to solve the problem, so I decide to stop fell sorry for my self and get my hand on the work...
FIRST THINGS FIRST!
DISCONNECT YOU NEGATIVE CABLE FROM THE BATTERY, AND ALLOW 5 MINUTES.
THIS IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE, BUT DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.
YOU WILL NEED TO CLEAR THE ERRORS ON THE ECU, IN ORDER TO THE AIBAG LIGHT TO GO OFF.
First, romove the steering wheel, using a torx T30, insert it through the small orifice, push it and keep it pressed until the airbag is released, without stop pressing, and with your other hand, pull the airbag of.
I have then removed the slip ring cover, you do not need to do this, I have done it just to confirm the broken ribbon cable...
Here you can see the broken ribbon cable... so my suspicion was confirmed!
The removal of the slip ring is straight forward, by removing 3 black torx bolts... easy!
Remove the robbon from the slip ring, that will make it easier to work on it...
The broken end needs to be straightned...
Scrape the white plastic covering the copper lanes, in order to be able to solder.
Remove the grey plastic that is holding the ribbon, make 3 cuts in the middle of the lanes an insert the ribbon in place to be solded.
Apply some solder pste, to obtain a good and clean contact.
And procced with soldering...
Insert the ribbon back into the slip ring, attention to the loops and to the inbetween plastic ribbon.
Put everything back, clear the AIRBAG ecu, and job done... What a relief, when I saw the airbag light going off...
I really hope this can help someone out there...
Have a nice day!
