    excellent guide there matey..

quick question, what grade sand paper did you use??

Im thinking of redoing mine black so will need to key the whole surface... the paint part i can cope with, its the prep work that worries me, as if you prep properly (like you did) you get a spot on finish!

Klone, I used a simple halfords sanding block, medium grade on one side and fine on the other, did the job perfectly

Hey seb - long time no see

Not sure right yet - I wanted to get some new rims last month, but cash flow is tight as I'm in the middle buying a house atm...!

My MV2s are horrifically rashed from the previous owner (er, and a *bit* me), so if I can refurb them all for under £40, and enjoy the process, I'll have a go.

Plus, if they look half way decent, when I DO come to selling them, they might be worth a bit more...

Further to previous, Halfords sell the Metalik which makes that part easy.
I've seen the Wurth paints online, but can anyone tell me:

Is the Wurth better than the Halfords own silver alloy wheel spray/clear lacquer?

Not looking at being stingy as the price isn't that different, but I can go to Halfords tonight and grab them, or wait a week for delivery...

    Thanks Martyn!

PSV - halfords paint is not that bad... but some people have said its a right nightmare to use...

I don't use either if im honest... i go to my local motor factors and get them to mix a colour for me

i will be picking VW black for my wheels i think!

I used wurth paint & laquer on my X5 & on prior recomendation & from recollection on back of what was then one of the only decent d.i.y. refurb guides as shared on autopia and relating to a job done on a Porsche 996.

2 years on and this winter has taken its toll on the repaired local area in that the laquer appears to have gone cloudy.

Not saying its bad as the match is fine - bit I will probaly redo the offending spoke at some point.
    Pre facelift E53 4.4i Sport & Z3 2.2 Roadster, (both black & black).
