I think it'd be quite easy. Inroduce a system where proof of car's milage can be produced if it's a used car (eg. you have 7 days from the day you buy your car to take your car to an aproved motor garage where an authorised mechanic checks milage on car's computer and produces a print-out/certificate which you then present to your isurance company. of course, if you buy it from a dealer, then the dealer could do it as part of the sale). The same is then done when you come to sell/scrap the car and their you have recorded your mileage.

    320d MSport Auto.

My renewal popped through letterbox yesterday, had quite a shock after last year.
Clean licence for 43years, no accidents, driven thousands of miles throughout my life.

8,000miles, £200 policy excess, 70% discount, 2 drivers insured, few mods, NCprotected £390 Saga.

Shopped around, Have said goodbye to Saga as they would only reduce by £25.

Have now purchased my insurance with JohnLewis.com for £260 all protected, £250 policy excess, was able to insure this for an extra £30. also includes misfuelling!

How could you prove it's yourself who has done the mileage?

Just renewed my 335i - 15000 miles a year, protected no claims, Myself (0 points) wife (3 points) with LVE - £251. There again i live in Shropshire where nothing happens!

Going back to the discussion about young and old drivers and mileage vs. experience. I've previously mentioned that I used to be responsible for a very large company car fleet where the average car did 30,000 miles plus per annum. Now the older drivers (45+) could do this sort of mileage and never have accidents, while the younger drivers constantly smashed up their cars all the time! So perhaps young drivers can get great experience by doing large mileages but be incapable of learning, while the older drivers realise that the risky overtake WILL one day end in disaster!

I do sympathise with the sensible younger driver who has a degree of intelligence and road craft, who ends up paying silly insurance premiums.
