The m50 325i manifold is better than your 328i manifold you have currently

The 328i inlet manifold has smaller inlet tracts than a m50 325i inlet manifold, hence the conversion that many people do

if this mod dont work on e46 328's then i assume my engine doesnt have this restricted manifold fitted?
if so,why not fit the e46 manifold in place of the m50's?
or am i being dense? lol
    what i've felt,what i've known
never shined through in what i've shown.

Yep, there's a guy called Ian that goes by the name of Alpina527 on other forums who converts them. IIRC the manifold kit is about £300. He will fit it for you for a price.
