I've read a few threads about tuning 330i 3 series, so wonder if the same tuning options are appropriate for my 2001/Y plate Z3 with the M54 3 litre engine?

I'm not expecting to turn it into a fire breathing monster, but a bit more low down punch would be more in keeping with what I expected from a small(ish) car with a 3 litre engine, so long as I don't lose the top end power it currently has. I've just ordered a replacement Pipercross panel filter as the original one is dirty, but was thinking in terms of a remap. I'm waiting for a strut brace to arrive and also planing some brake and polybush upgrades before anyone suggests I do these before more power.

    Hi

I've remapped my 330ci. There is more low end torque, much better throttle response and the driveability has improved. Smoother off the lights. It still pulls at higher speeds also.

Performance wise has not increased all that much but the whole feel of the car has changed. Fuel economy has also improved. Averaging 27mpg with my manual transmission. I believe I was getting just above 26mpg before the remap.

Certainly worth it if you plan on keeping your car for at least a year.

Not too bothered about mpg as it's a weekend toy (320d Touring for work use), but currently getting 25-26mpg out of it. I was planing on buying a 4.5 litre TVR so even of the mpg dropped a bit it wouldn't be the end of the world, an improvement would be a total bonus. I like the sound of smoother off the lights and better low end torque. I see that's two for BM chiptune judging by jrfty's sig.

As I'm no longer a sponsor on here I obviously can not sell, but BWchiptune are all I use for BMW tuning. So well worth using giving him a call to get booked in.

I've just been reading a thread on Pistonheads about 98 RON petrol and I've been runing my Z3 on 95 RON since I bought it last month. The kind of power improvements we've been talking about might be similar (slightly higher) than what I could be losing by runing on 95 RON. I've only just filled up, but my next few tankfulls will be with 98 RON to see how that goes. I still like the sound of the chiptune though, so will probably end up doing that as well.

In other news, I fitted a secondhand strutbrace I received today. It has tightned up the front end as I'd hoped, so next stop is to polybush the front wishbones and to replace the wishbones themselves also.
