    Car's aren't like iPhones, and don't need to be updated.
    BMW use the updates as bug fixes if an issue is discovered that would be fixed.

    Not all updates can be expected to increase performance, so unless there are issues which have a known software patch, you can leave everything as it is without problems.

    It's likely that when people say there were no more updates, that would be with regards to certain ECUs, such as the engine or transmission, but after a few years, BMW will have moved on to the next model and will be busy sorting that out.

    Issues generally only turn up in the first couple of years and once anything they have missed in testing has been covered, that'll be it.
    Audio and nav stuff tends to get more updates for phones and features.

    If you find a company using Autologic they will be able to check if you have any updates for your cars software
