    Hi all

Im new to this forum so you might have to excuse my ignorance a little.

I have recently purchased my first BMW, A 530Dd m sport 2006, great car and I have have made it even better by having it remapped, and i am very very happy with the results, pushing just over 280bhp now.

I have also bought myself a cable so I can hook it up to the car and read any faults and also maybe change a few codings.

What I am worried about is that if I hook up the car am I likely/or how easy is to wipe the map, something I obviously dont want to do.

Like I said I am new to all this so learning as I go( the Bmw coding forum might as well be in chinese, cause I dont understand a word of their "pc speak" at the minute)

But its a challenge, and I like a challenge,

so any answers/help on this would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

Hi, from what I was told when I had my car remapped & from what I know then no you can't wipe the map on your ECU unless you have the correct software to do so. The map is locked after it is written to your ECU preventing such accidents.

I now do remapping and you won't wipe a remap with a diagnostic test, the remap works by deleting your old map information from the ECU and replacing it with the new modified files, only by having the correct equipment can you wipe the ECU data so you shouldn't have a problem.

So even if I were to do say....... a full software update,

something I have been told will wipe the remap if I take it to the stealers(and cost £200!)

    this will not affect it??

    Thanks

A full software update WILL wipe the remap but a diagnostics won't. Why are you thinking of an update. I believe someone on here, very knowledgeable on these subjects, stated that there were no updates for the E60 after 2006.

No updates in the last 6 years.

I find that a bit hard to believe.

I was a bit sceptical about joining any of these forums,

    and this is exactly why,

1 person telling you this, and another telling you that.

I suppose it's just being able to pick out the replies from the ones that actually really do know what they are talking about

Neither of these posts you've added say that there are updates, only people enquiring about them. I'm sure Blood was the person who said there were no updates after 2006. I'll do a search for it.
