So I just bought an e36 328i coupe I am trying to put back on the road. First most noticeable thing under the bonnet was the duck tape'd up hose connecting a very oily oil catch can.

I want to clean that catch can and empty it of all it's oil as it's very full. I was going to clean out the inside with some hot water first and then just let it dry. Is that alright? I imagine when the engine bay get's hot any left over water inside the can might evaporate and I'm just wondering if this could cause any danger the engine.

    Many thanks

Hi mate, I would say your fine with that, use some fairy liquid or something similar mixed in with the water to help break down the oil as water alone won't do this. any water vapour wont do any harm.
