Hello folks, I have heard that getting the straight six 2.5ltr turbo diesels remapped can yield good results and had been tempted to try it on my old E34 525 TDS until I saw the price.

However, I have since seen the below two 'chip tuning' options on fleabay. However, I am rather dubious about them. Particularly as they seem to contradict each other, the second stating that boost is not ECU controlled and that you'll need a seperate manual boost controller. It then goes on to give expected power gains which surely cannot be predicted if the boost is being manualy set by the customer?
I was also wondering if the engine would work at all with replacing the chip as the ECU is coded to the injector pump.

Do any of you fine folks have any experince of these things or heard any stories regarding them?

    Many thanks,

    Smiler.

First link - pretty sketchy, does say exactly what you'll get
Second link - look more promising, and actually has pictures of chips.

The ECU does control both fueling and boost, one chip does the fueling, the other controls the boost.

Rather than trying to figure out what they are on about, you have your friendly BMW tuner right here.

If you are able to pull your ECU out, and tell me the numbers on the case, I'll be able to post you out the 2 chips needed for £65 (Slightly more than my usual price, as there are 2 separate chips rather than one for the majority of other ECUs)

Power gains will be the same if not more, I'll need to have a chat with a diesel specialist I know, and see if he's managed to get even more power out of it safely.

That's very tempting. I might have to wait until after christmass mind as the car has just developed a problem (see my other thread in the E34 5 series section).

Do you also supply chip tunning for the M50 B25 engine? I have a 1991 E34 525i tramp trackday car that I would eventualy like to turbocharge but in the mean time an effective chip would be nice.

That's a rather impressive increase for a normaly aspirated car. Is that with no other modifications?

Well, at a recent RR day, a car done by myself, and one by BW Chiptune both got 218bhp, and that's 26 bhp on each, but they both had the Dave F induction kit, and i think exhausts too
Others have seen similar gains so it's not just a one off either.

As for chip prices, they may be going up in the future, but I'll give decent notice beforehand anyway.

Ok, that seems plausable. I think I shall be saving my pennies up for one for Project Bratwurst then.

In the mean time, here are the details of my 525 TDS. Assuming I get the thing fixed I shall be getting in touch with a view to purchasing from you.

Will I need to aquire a pair of sockets to fit the new chips?

    Many thanks,

    Smiler.

The sockets are already installed, BMW had planned to do chip swaps if needed, but i think they never got round to it, they just swapped the complete unit instead.
Feel free to open it up and have a look, you'll see the 2 chip inside under little plastic covers, with their software numbers written on top,
    most likely 358445 and 348446
