    Ok, mates just bought an 04 Z4. 3.0l and its nice. not my bag to be honest but pleasant nonetheless....
    I have a 1999 E46 323SEi saloon with an M52TUB on board...how do i keep up with him?
    (turbos n chargers are a bit out of the pricerange..)

    sell your car and buy a 3.0l z4.....that way you'll keep up with him Or do an engine conversion...however the handling of a Z4 means you'd have trouble keeping up anyway....

    cheapest way to keep not to far behind is to drop the 2.8 in, and remap it! the z4's aresupposed to be crap in the corners, according to topgear! old 1 was bad, new 1 not much better. or sell the 323and buy an e36 m3.

    I think selling up is your only option - I'm guessing the Z4 is lighter than an E46 by around 100kg or so.

    Reckon the M3 idea sounds best too....and it'll sound better!

    Seems like the only course of action here is an E39 M5.
    Need 4 doors for little man...

    Hmm....wanders off to autotrader to upset the wife..
