I've just bought a 525 Tds (E34) and although I've never driven one before, it feels a lot more powerful than I expected . Browsing through the service history last night and I found what looks like a chip from the ECU, so it got me thinking. How easy is it to check the ECU to see if an uprated chip has been inserted?

A dynamometer test will confirm if the engine is modified. Google the term and read up on it

I know what a dyno test is, but have no idea where to get one done (in the Manchester area). I'm not overly interested in exactly what power the engine is making, just curious as to whether it's been chipped or not. If it has, then i'll stop thinking about getting it done lol.

Can you open up the ECU without doing any damage?
