Hello people.. Right has any body on here tried/done or know of anybody who has wrapped there exhaust and manifold? Pros and cons is it worth it? As I understand it manifold wrapping is to lower under bonet temperatures also helping cold air intake!! Is that right?

i was considering doing this to the M3 manifold before i fit it to the 2.8
but as far as i remember decent heat wrap isnt cheap and for all the gain i would be getting i decided it wouldnt be worth it
if i was running a heavily modified turbo engine then i could see the point but not on a mildly modified N/A engine

Thanks for your reply. Ever heard of scavenge effect on the exhaust from wrapping? The reason I'm asking is because I just found a load of wrap from when I did my mgf to stop it from boiling itself and the stuff in the boot lol

If you have it then do it mate but as said it isn't worth spending a lot of money unless you have a heavily modified turbo engine! But if you do have it then do it bhp gains will be minimal but it will make it smoother running I would immagine with less hot air going thru the intake

as said above unless your running a turbo or the manifold is near the air filter (on the e36 its the other side to the air filter) then there is no point

alryt bud, i tried it on my tds a while back, wrapped the downpipe after the turbo, tbh i didnt really notice anything, i used cheap stuff though which wasnt a good insulator at all so i cant speak for the more effective stuff, plus i would imagine it would react to a petrol alot better due to higher egt temp's, if youve got it, bang it on

I'll see what mood I'm in next time I do any work in the engine bay... Also I'm finding it quite hard to find any mods other then remap air filter and exhaust for the m52b20 lump... Surely you 3 series peeps most know a trick or two???

Woo a science lesson thanks grommet from what I understand of that putting a big bore exhaust on is a pointless exercise for the little gains made at the top end much is lost over whole the rev range....
