    Have you checked around the exhaust or even the exhaust heat shield that runs down the car? On my previous E36, one of the bolts holding the shield tore of (well, the bolt was still there but the shield became weak over time and broke around the bolt) and the shield was resting on the exhaust, so it would rattle (faintly) when accelerating. I fixed it by buying a washer that was larger than the whole in the shield.

    I've checked for leaks and so has a mechanic hes had a look but could not hear/see anything but did not take it for a test drive, seams ok when not moving it's when your doing 30+ you can really hear it

    K&N filter used to sound good on turbos and vvti's you could really here them but thesedays id rather not fit them in summer you see the performance drop off its horrible on a hot day proper slugish response

    yeah i'am not a fan of it either to be honest, it was a mechanic who owned it last and done extensive work to it, only bad work he done was put lowering springs and this air filter on, looks nice with the 18" alloys I must admit but still

    I'd only do an upgraded panel filter myself (from K&N, Pipercross, etc.) unless I had a good heat shield or a cold air feed to go with any other kind of filter.
