Hey everyone so this weekend i am going to have my 2003 e46 318D BMW Re-map and i could not be anymore excited, i have a few questions though, i been reading about how i should make sure my car is running smooth and breathing better before i do my remap, As of what i have read i should clean/ get a new EGR, replace my breather and also clean my k&n air filter, and i was wondering if anyone knows if i am missing anything else? what else can i do or should do to make my car breath better and run smoother before i do my remap this weekend? I would really appreciate everyone suggestion and ideas. Thanks

It is always worth checking the engine breather, the standard one for the UK market at least was a sponge tube (we call it the loo roll filter) which carbonises over time and then blocks up cause too much back pressure on the turbo and damaging the bearings. BMW replaced it with a vortex (spinning air) style filter in 2005 and that should be retro-fitted to your car. It costs about €60 in the UK, I would also blank the swirl flaps off, they are a common failure point (quick question however, do you have emissions test in Germany that measure the content of the exhaust gasses, in the UK we only have a smoke test for diesel exhasut emissions) swirl flaps are used to reduce nitrates and sulphates in the exhaust gas but they do fall off their spindles and cause terrible engine damage.

Yes clean the K&N but franklly OEM filters are probably better! Also yes clean your EGR valve, it does not need replacing, just cleaning
