Please excuse me if this is posted in the wrong place: I'm new.

As far as I can tell if you want get more oomph from your engine, you can either reprogram the ECU directly, or you can add some kind of dongle to intercept the ECU's outward instructions.

Worried about BMW catching me out, I thought I would go for the dongle option. These two are big on ebay.

    http://www.pro-bitz.com/(about £100).

Does anyone have any experience of these, or anything similar. Their claims sound so appealing.

Or maybe I should get the ECU reprogrammed? - But wouldn't it be detectable in the service? And unless I brought the guy round again, irreversible.

I have moved your thread to the correct section of the forum

motechmike and Simon of Emaps are both forum vendors and specialists in this field. I'm sure they will be along shortly to advise you of how to gain the required power without it causing a concern with BMW

Welcome to the mad house !

I would stay away from plug in tuning box's most of them fool the ECU in to seeing diffrent numbers i.e its colder out side then it really is ! etc etc

AS for a re-map that is the best way to go.. Much safter and better all round.. ! Most mappers work cant be found by main dealers unless there really looking for it ! As for when the car has its service your file.. By now 2005 the car would have had all its updates so they have no need to flash over the top of it.. !
Take a look at our section we have a few offers comming up on price.
