I think a performance filter element in the standard box is a far cheaper way of getting cold air into the engine than buying a chrome tube with a paper cone on the end of it down where it'll get covered in shite.

    1) No risk of sucking up water when it's towards the bottom since the car has a cover on the bottom of it.
    2) If you were worried about that just get a filter for the filter.
    3) It won't suck up "shite" as it needs to get pretty darn soaked before water starts passing through it. if your not reffering to water what are you reffering to? dirt that gets stuck on the filter? just clean your filter every 3-4months instead of every 6 months if that's what your worried about >.> if you want performance you cant be lazy.
    4) I'm not saying your gonna get 15HP but maybe 7-10 which aint too bad.

Or if you leave the air filter in its purpose built air box you don't need to buy a filter for your air filter lol.

Sorry I know everyone has their own opinions but in reality I don't think you will see any noticeable difference apart from sound.

And the plastic under tray doesn't make it amphibious btw.

I had one of the K & N gen 1 kits which came without a heatshield and im going to be swapping it back for the original airbox and an upgraded panel filter for the time being. There are some kits ive seen though which would tempt me back. Racing dynamics do one that utilises the factory intake, comes with a heatshield and what looks like a K& N cone filter or AFE do kits of similar kits. Some stuff you may have to get from the states. Try having a look on Bavauto.com or the Racing dynmaics site?

Seems upgraded panel filter in original box is the way to go then?

Think the simple fact is "You Do not Get Something for Nothing", An uprated panel filter Will increase airflow!!?!! Its a sucking system, the engine DEMANDS air which needs to be available?

Wether or Not it screens the same amount of dirt (in Microns) as the OEM?? With the same area unlikely!! (but not impossible!)

But Placebo effect is always comforting! ie. I have spent money therefore I will have a result

(The OEM Filter system IS a compromise ie. it has to work in extreme temperatures and conditions therefore in certain envioronments it can be improved)

Also bare in mind that the airbox on the 330's is pretty much spot on, no real room for improvement in that area!

I think I might just get an upgraded panel filter come the next service... not that keen on upgrading the beast too much, just like it breathing nicely!
