i used to be on an american forum and the us m3 cam shaft along with the manifold conversion was a very popular mod with m52 2.8's, the 2.8 tu was the e46 328 engine, it had double vanos, why not source a s50/s52 off ebay, that would give you 540 performance with the better 6 cylinder handling

    A number of reasons:

A good S52 is pretty damn expensive when "ALL" i need is the crank/rods etc

The weight of the iron block - i want to use an alloy block, might not work but hey ho if it doesn't. S52 performance with a lighter block will be good.

Don't worry too much about finding S52 parts. The M54b3.0 from the 330i uses the same crank. Just get the complete crank, rods and piston assembly and drop it in. Use the 3 litre injectors as well. It will also need some tweeks to the mapping which Enda can do

When fitted with the US s52b32 or US s50b30 cams, M50 manifold and bbtb you should see around 245-250bhp from your custom built 3 litre

I must add that I have never actually done the 330 internals mod myself but as far as I know it all drops in. So no guarantee's

    An S52 3.2 M3 Evo puts out 240bhp. Nowhere near 300 bhp I'm afraid

    Hmm i see.

So 3 litre bits + M50 manifold + BBTB + the required mapping + bigger injectors is going to give me something in the region of 245-250bhp then ?

I'll be fitting my own induction system whilst im at it so poss another 5-10bhp.

Is this the most i can get from an M52/S52 setup without FI ?

What about taking bits from an S50B32 ?

Nothing from the s50b32 will fit.

Other than Fi you are just about done at 250bhp. Maybe nudging to 260 with a lot more expense
