Hi I have been searching for hours now trying to solve my question. I have a e36 325i cabrio with an open diff. I am in the process of purchasing a 328i sport limited slip differential and have read that on US models the ratio is 2.93 and the 'winter pack' option for a 325i was 3.15? Are these figures correct for UK spec and if so, will I see a dramatic effect on the current acceleration and handling in a positive or negative manner? Cheers

Not heard about the winter pack option. In the UK the 325 uses the 3.15 ratio. The M3 3litre diff uses the same ratio and will also fit if you swap the flanges.

Apparently you could have a winter pack including lsd, heated seats and washer jets etc. Do you know what the ratio of the early 328i sports lsd is?

Sorry, I meant I hadn't heard of different LSD ratios with the winter pack.

    The 328 is 2.93

the best you can do with a 328 lsd will be 2.93 as Ian has said.
you can also get a 3.07 ratio from a 328 auto and could fit the LSD to one of these
from what I have read the 328 lsd will not fit other medium case diffs as the crownwheel is a different thickness

the 3.0 m3 LSD is your best option or 325 LSD this will keep your ratio ok

Dont be confused by other countries diff ratios USA, japan, malayaisa got all the good ratios

The 328i diff is almost giveaway cheap which is why I thought a lower ratio wouldnt be that bad a sacrifice. Are you 100% sure that the 328 diff will not fit my 1994 325? Cheers

It will fit, we didn't say it wouldn't! Should give you better motorway economy as well.

The 325/328/ M3 (3l) all use the type 188 medium case diff.

Will I notice the lack in acceleration or will the new lsd traction sort of even it up with the added bonus of powerslides? Sorry I misunderstood when Hamish 262001 said the crownwheel is different thickness and will not fit the case? Im glad it does as my payment has been processed. Hope it still locks and doesnt knock rattle or bang.........
