Hi there, I am a newbie to bmw tuning and to this forum, but not to bmws, i have a dilema i will shortly be buying an e36 with the intention of modding it, i will be using the car both daily commute to work (not far) but also want to use it for track and drift days. Just wonderd which would be the best engine323i,325i or 328i (cannt afford an m3 yet lol) which one would be the best to mod and get the best power? any comments would be appreciated thanks James.

my vote going to 328i if you want stay in NA route, but if you want fit turbo to it then early 325i without vanos.

If you wanted to Mod then I would say it would HAVE to be the 328.

    Standard I'd recommend 325.

What is the price differences between the 328 and the M3, both standard?

How much are you going to be throwing at the tuning work?

Thanks for the comments guys, the price difference between an M3 & 328 is quite a bit, which is one of the main reasons for my post.

My plan is to upgrade the car over a period of time so price and budget is not a big deal ( will save up lol )

I have been reading not only on this site, but also on the net, I would probably go down the modding route of: intake manifold ( if needed) & induction kit, exhaust, chip or remap, & M3 cams ( if they fit) just wanted to know out of the 323 325 & 328 which of the above modes would be best suited to that engine?

    Many thanks James
