I am currently buying the parts I need to build a new engine for my tarmac rally BMW M3 Compact. Sadly, in UK rallying the biggest engine I can use is 3.0. I am intending to use a 3.2 head, 3.0 block and 3.2 sump. I have pistons on order from the States, and steel rods, but need to decide which cams to go for and whether to use Vanos. Schrick seem to be the default cam choice, any views?

Any advice appreciated. Any idea what sort of power I could reach? Intending to use standard crank and valves unless advised otherwise...

I dont think you would be any better off removing the vanos system for your intended application as it greatly improves low end torque, it might be worth doing for a track car but i would leave it alone. I would not have thought it would be to hard to reach 300+hp with the 3.0 litre motor

You should see well over 300rwhp if you do it right. This guy S50B30 rebuild was aiming for 370 at the wheels
