Hello lol, had a few things done to the engine over the last year including m50 inlet I need to get it re-mapped to help fuel ratio better but is it worth getting a chip at the same time?
I'm aware it only adds around 8-12 bhp but I'm not sure how much it cost on average for just a re-map so would it be worth doing cost wise?

    Any advise would be good

    Cheers ppl ?

You either chip, or you remap. You don't do both. Older ECU's are chipped. You open the ecu and replace the original rom chip with one with different software.

Newer ecu's are remapped / flashed, whereby you plug a laptop into the ecu port and its the program on the ECU that is changed, with no actual physical changes being made.

The easy way to say it is if you can't re-write the chip you replace the chip

as above you either chip or map never both, being a 1997 yours should be a Re-map and with the M50 manifold you can expect to see in the region of 230-235bhp depending on how much power youve lost over the years and who does the map, think im right in saying they all vary slightly because some ppl have a bog standard map job done, some do active mapping and some have sort of built there own program, by that i mean over the years they have adapted the map for a certain car pushing the boundries of certain points to a safe limit.

if anyone thinks what ive said is totall crap please feel free to say so

And being a 1997, you'll only be able to re-map it - You can't 'chip' it.

EDIT: Standy671 got there before me

I'm of the opinion that really you need a rolling road before and after on the same road. Trouble is that can dwarf the price of an off the shelf "chip" or "remap" but without you don't know what you got for your money.

Cheers for the advise and info really helpful, so a re-map it is and I believe I got to take it out and send off I've been told?

And think the rolling road is a good idea once again big thanks for your comments :-)
