Hi guys, I have a 325i sport ( e30 ) i have had it a few months now, i am looking to get more power out of her around 190-200 bhp,my friend has a e36 328i sport and he has just replaced the manifold and throttle body from a m50 engine and got about 30-40 more hp is their anything similar i could do or get and spend around £1000 or as close to that give or take.

there are a number of things you can do but it really does depend on the budget, if its going to be over a period of time it isnt so bad but unleashing an extra 40bhp from your engine in one go will be expensive, like motechmike suggested a full exaust system will deffinatly help. when it comes to tuning you have to understand how the engine works to reap the most rewards, the engine needs to take on fuel, so a cleaner air mixture is good, cold is better so getting a good induction kit and having a heatshield will do wonders, upgraded injectors will also help as more fuel gets into the engine. the engine also needs to release the burnt fuel(gasses) quicker to let more in so a less restrictive manifold and exaust system will deffinatly help, having the ports polished to give a smoother flow for the gasses makes a huge amount of difference to the engines characteristics. its not so much power you should aim for its getting a good power curve to the engine.
another thing to consider is suspension and brakes, although the car wont go forward quicker it will mean you can maintain higher speeds for longer wich in my opinion is a better and more fun way of tuning the car, its also extra insurance for when you want to have fun.

Changed the air filter on mine and shielded it, car now has a lovely induction sound and a little more power. To get 40bhp out of an engine will require more work than just bolting things on.

Just to add...a freind bougth a full stainless exhaust for his and it made quite a difference, that coupled with an air filter and perhaps decent leads may go some way to upping the power.

You can fit the internals of the old 525eta to give you 2.7 litres. I also believe some of the M52 328 internals will fit straight in for a 2.8 litre conversion.

Apart from that, you can fit s Schrick cam, bbtb, chip.

    Welcome

I was thinking of recommending the 2.7 conversion but was also thinking a M50 conversion might be more fun!
