    Hi all,
New to the forum and have a 2002 320 d with 130 thousand on the clock. It had a new turbo at approx 89 thou and has the swirl flaps removed. I was thinking of having it chipped but am worried it my go pop with the mileage. Any thoughts welcomed and also any recommended installers in the Lincoln / Hull areas.
    Thanks
    Jimspeed

it take it you mean a remap ?
if the engine has been looked after and is in good condition it will be ok, i had my old passat mapped at about 145k and sold it with 200k on it and still going strong.
my 2004 320d has got 140k on it and i will be getting it remapped later this year when my insurance is up for renewal.

As with anything, if you ask more from it then it will be under more load, this means if you have something on your car that is on its last legs a remap will likely make this fail quicker, but with a fairly recent turbo it shouldn't be a problem, clutch can be a issue and sometimes DMF but I have mapped my 330Cd which had 140k at the time it was done, I've since put on a extra 5000 trouble free miles. The car went from 204 BHP to 238BHP, I've done a track day in that time as well.

Various components do let go after a while, turbos and autoboxes for example, but there isn't any clear expected lifetime.

Some turbos go on forever, others might stat making noises at 40-50k miles. This would point to issues being down to either bad luck or mechanical sympathy.
If turbos are left to cool down before shutting the engine off, and the oil is looked after, it would appear their lifetime is greatly lengthened.
