would be illegal on anything built after 1991/2 as you lose control of emmissions and would quickly kill the cat if it ran rich.
throttle bodies are the injected equivalent these days
    what i've felt,what i've known
never shined through in what i've shown.

Just done this on my 205. Im sure some parts are different on the BMW but the basics will be the same. You will need the carbs, an inlet manifold, throttle linkage, trumpets, filters, fuel pressure regulator and some fuel hose. You will also need a new fuel pump in the tank to take the pressure down to about 3psi (i did anyway). The ecu and other wires get taken out as they are not needed. It is advised to get a rev limiter as you will loose this when removing the ecu. You will be able to get basic jet/needle/choke settings off the internet which will safely get you somewhere to have them set up properly. Fuel economy isnt as good (not as bad as people make out when they are set up properly) and they are a bit harder to start on cold days but the sound more then makes up for it.

what did you do about the ignition if you took the ECU's out? - i only ask 'cos i have a spare V12 and would love to get it running on carbs. without electronic gizmos.
I once owned the greatest BMW ever.

You will either need to run a distributor or a standalone ecu. A standalone ecu with an adjustable rev limiter wouldnt cost too much.

Seen as ive just picked up a 318i (m43b18) and i have a set of Weber 45s that are doing nothing i think im going to try this out for myself. There seems to be plenty of clearance so that wont be an issue. I just need to find someone who could make/makes a manifold then i can get started.
