Mods - please leave in this section if possible!

Need some advice please - I have an E36 rally car fitted with a 3.0 M3 engine. Building a new car and wanted to fit a 3.2 M3 (especially as I have a mint one) but max size allowed is 3.0. Options:

    a. reduce size of 3.2 to 3.0 if possible?
    b. sell 3.2 buy another 3.0
    c. find alternative BMW engine...

re c. I was thinking of twin turbo 3.0 from 335i, but if turbo'd I can only go to 2.5 litres!!!! Does BMW make a 2.5 turbo? Can I reduce the 335i to 2.5?

Cheers for any advice or pointers...

sell the evo engine and use the funds to rebuild your S50???
i'm sure you could sleeve down the S52 but for what gain?...double vanos?
torque isnt so important when you can rev the engine into the power band at all times anyway?
    what i've felt,what i've known
never shined through in what i've shown.

The 3.0 S50 I currently use is being sold with the current car. I was intending to use a 3.2 for more power and torque but having got a great one now realise I can't use it unless I can reduce the size to 3.0! If so I may be better off just buying another 3.0 S50...

It did get me thinking about other options hence the turbo route - I thought a new 335i engine would be ideal but at 3.0 again too big as 2.5 limit if turbo'd Maybe I can sleeve that to bring it down? But 500cc is a lot to lose!

NB I didn't put model in title as I'll consider any BMW engine rom any model

S2000 is a possibility but I'd miss the power and torque of the M3. Mine is even faster than the one you refer to (which is still for sale) and I intend my new one to be faster still The S2000 does have one big advantage - it weighs about half as much as an S50 and can be mounted further back as it is smaller - I think that's two advantages...

Would be worth investigating mix and matching. You want the Evo sump, the 3 litre bottom end and box, and the evo head.

Hi Ian, this is exactly the sort of advice I'm after Gearbox is sorted (I use a strange secret option to get the best ratio) but would be very interested in how to get the best from a 3.0/3.2 hybrid. Few questions:

What is the advantage of the 3.2 sump?

Where does the power/torque advantage of the 3.2 come from - ie head/vanos or larger size?

Is 3.2 a bored out 3.0 or is the change due to different stroke?

    Thanks.

Any idea what an RB25 is from previous post?

dont no about power loss s2000 is 240 bhp at the fly wheel std so im sure with a turbo ect u must be able to get up to the 350-400 bhp and as u say smaller engine lighter and better weight distribution dont know cause ive never done it but i would of thought it easier to control a lighter car on a rally circuit also think about power to weight ratio but each to his own and good luck with ur project

Hi, the RB25 is a Nissan lump. The evo sump has dual pickups. Iirc the 3.2 was stroked.

I'll have a dig around for you to see if I can get more info.
