First post on the forums, please be kind
So, just a little bit of background info before I start. Over the last few months, I've been looking to trade in my 350Z GT 313 for an M3, as I want more power, and more seats...I have test driven various M3's now, Manual, Auto, EDC, non-EDC, etc. and I have to say, if I was to get one, I could only bring myself to buy one with DCT, EDC and a Coupe. To have all of that, and decent condition, mileage, service history, etc., the money racks up!
Speaking about this to friends, someone the other day mentioned getting a 335i/335d. I hadn't really thought about these before, but recently I keep coming back to them. I love the idea of having a 3l twin turbo if I'm honest In doing a bit of research, I've seen various people have gone down the re-tune route for both cars, and the performance figures are astonishing!!
I having been looking at the 335d's, and looking at the performance figures that are easily achievable through simple upgrades...However, what I want to know is, is it better to get a re-map done, or piggyback?
From what I have seen/read so far, a lot of people seem to go down the re-map route (from E-Maps, RemapsUK, DMS, etc.) and the results look good. Now, a lot of people worry here as having this done, it invalidates warranties - This isn't really an issue for me, as I will be looking to get a 2009/10 model, so the warranty will already have expired. What else is there to worry about with re-maps? I've read somewhere that when the car is taking in for a service (BMW garage), they flash the ECU and the mapping disappears, hence having to pay again to get it mapped - Is that correct?
On the other hand, I have read that getting a simple piggyback solution is amazing (from P-Tronics, Spider, etc.). However, from my limited understanding, a lot of people seem to complain that whilst these are fitted, various parts of the engine wear quickly, i.e. pumps, injectors, boosts, etc. Is this correct?
Has anyone here actually tuned their 335d? If so, did you go down a remap or tuning box?
Thanks in advance!
