well lads i bought an cone filter for my 318is only to be disappointed that its a square end on the airflow meter and i thought to myself that most other bmw engines had a round airflow meter so i thought to myself would a bigger airflow off a bigger engine work on my 318is

Probably not TBH, it might be better to get an adaptor plate made up for the filter that you have, can anyone confirm?

the early 318is (m42) had a square maf the newer (M44) ones had a round one.
i think the ecu decides how much air is needed for the correct air/fuel mix so changing the maf would'nt really do anything, but im not sure on that.
if you have it remapped the the ecu decides it needs more air to compensate for the extra fuel.....i think

The M42 uses a AFM, the M44 uses a MAF. A few people have looked at swapping them over and have even succeeded.

I know when my brother tested removing the AFM and running MAP on a standalone it showed no restriction in the AFM.

You'll have to wait for postage as it's from Hong Kong, cheap enough though!
