Reading lots of worrying posts elsewhere that a vehicle with a modified ECU will be failed under new VOSA regulations ? Which is even more worrying as I'm looking at supercharging my M3 (so a bit more than a remap. . . . . Is this the end of pertormance modifications ?

    Regards

    Pete

And if it was true there is no way they can check. It just has to pass the emissions.

That's correct. They were complaining about illegal modifications, but they realised they knew sweet FA about it, so gave up.

On cars 2009 onwards there is a way they can check as this was going to happen in Germany

    Guys,

Of course, I understand that you have to be cautious about what you read on the Internet. However, when you see multiple posts - some supposedly from MOT testers - saying a new regulation is being enforced, it gives one pause for thought. Particularly if you are (a) considering spending a 5 figure sum modifying your car and (b) however are not a plutocrat who can afford to write off a 5 figure sum in a couple of years time.

I'm not anti-Europe, however I do worry that legislation from there could change what we can and cannot do (in the way of professional modifications) to our cars. Look at some of what was mooted on older cars (however overturned because of pressure from owners). My personal view is we should keep an active watch on this sort of legislation. Or risk finding we can't make modifications to our cars.

    Regards

    Peter

My 530d has sailed through 2 MOT's with a Remap and the tester knows that it's been remapped, no problems.

My brother is a MoT tester with his own garage, he told me that if the emissions fall out of the band the car is classified in it will fail it's test. Obviously this only applies to newer models rather than all cars... He also told me the way around it...... Basically for me he would test my car when he has another car with the same emissions band.....

My advice just get to know a mot tester very well.
