    Hey all,

I used to have a few diesel cars which had an ODB port and a Audi but never had it remapped but seem to recall some fantastic improvements using the cars original ECU and simply flashing new maps to it.

I know most garages charge £200-£400 for it and most of "pre-configured" maps which have been tested on the exact engine code and then duplicated the maps and supplied to others.

However I just came across this:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/041-KWP2000-EC...item4a9f1a0826

Okay - it's ebay, but its not a resistor, and its not an electric super charger.

IT CLAIMS; that it is a OBD tool for both diagnostic and mapping and is supplied with a multitude of maps.

Does any one know of this particular mapping equipment as at sub £50 its a steal and I have access to rolling road for £35 a session so think if I am able to locate the correct maps I will be in a position to remap my car to suit my driving requirements (Fuel consumption, sports, etc.)

Any one got anything they would like to add/comment on as would be very interested in learning more.

Will save me £££ as I improve the cars performance with breathing systems, cams, perhaps even charging it at a later date and wouldn't want to pay ~>£600 on customised remaps every time.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mmm, I'd be wary. Generally good remaps are so expensive partly because of the endless hours of rolling road development and if you're going to modify the map on your car you need to go to someone you can trust. Forced induction cars are especially easy to 're-map' on the face of things because you can just wind the boost up, (anyone remember bleed valves?) but doing this without also sorting the fuelling, timing, etc could potentially have disasterous consequences.

seen some the maps that come with them cheap tools and oh my..
One case there was a skoda vrs not runing a polo ECU code ... Nice !!

Also ruinning at 1.8bar of boost......... !!! Bang

We spend a lot of money on getting the best tools out there to flash car's. Also we spend a lot of time R&D on our maps to make them the best out there..

If you want to go down that road thats fine.. But we make a lot of money each year putting car's right after peple use tools like that.

    Mike
    Thanks Mike

^ I agree there are probably countless number of people who make super idiotic mistakes by using these tools, generally because they are probably uneducated in that field of expertise and make no effort to understand what they are actually doing.

I have absolute no quibbles in going to a garage and having remaps carried out but at £200 plus a time this could become extremely expensive especially if there is only a few minor tweaks I was looking to carry out to increase ecomony over performance and vice versa.

I am litereally looking for something that I can read my map with and then begin learning and understand how it all works together.

as I understand adding a decent exhaust system and breathing equipment is great for potential BHP - but only if your going to carry out a remap to tune the car to its new system? Or is the e46 different? I know this is what we used to do on the peugeots.

So Mike, understanding you probably have extense knowledge in this field - would you say this equipment is suitable for remapping and diagnostics?
