ive posted this before but i got no answer in the e46 sectio so trying here in the tuning section.

    i want to know can u get uprated camshafts for my 2004 e46 couple. 318ci 1995cc 143bhp??

ive seen lots advertised but when u click on more info it says for 318ci e36 so im asuming that is the 115bhp model??

iknow the timing gets adjusted by the ecu to match the octane of the petrol, is that the reason y i cant find any for my model??

i will be getting a remap anyway so if i can get hold of some id like to get some more lary cams in before the remap.

Try contacting a motorsport retailer that sells piper, kent or cat cams. They may be able to order something custom for you.

bare in mind its not a simple as just uprating cams shafts .. your valve springs, and any other associated parts in the cylinder head ... the valves themselves with need to be looked into...
then there is the case of will the cam cover allow you to run a different profile cam ??? i.e. will higher cam profile foul the cover ...

its a big job and unfortunately not just a case of chuck the cams in have a remap and go ..

plus without further upgrades i.e. cam gear (pulleys) you wont be albe to finely tune the cams to the engine,

    Supply and demand.

The reason that there isn't much available in the way of camshafts is because it's not a very good engine to tune, there are not great gains to have from it.

    Wouldnt bother mate

I wanted to do this and phoned a tuning company and they said with a remap and cam shaft i would see about 30bhp and cost over £1k.

I would just save up and get a 6pot car mate wouldnt waste money tuning your 318. ive heard a remap is good to get rid of the flatspots and a small increase in power & better mpg's.

thanks for the replys guys. i just thought it was worth asking about as 2.0l engines over 12 years ago were making over 150bhp so i thought maybe the engine was restricted in a sence with using mild cmashafts.

i think ill just get a greens panel filter and a remap then and leave it at that. as if i can not see a performance gain it would be nice to see a gain in my mpg.

as for upgrading to a 6 pot ill have wait a few years as i brought at the peak and i canrt bear to sell for £3k less than i brought it for 5 months ago.

thanks again for the advice guys uve most probs saved me alot of money. so thanks again.
