You would expect a dealer to know when an engine has been correctly mapped, but a map just sets the car to it's optimum performance or economy setting to get the best out of the engine.
I don't see why you need to report an engine remap to your insurance, you don't report it when the set up is bad and the engine won't run!

I have had a Skyline mapped, but you had to change the ECU before it could be done, is this necessary with a BMW.
Also on the Skyline a map is well down the line when tuning. First thing to do is the induction kit, then a full exhaust, upgrade the plugs, change the ECU then remap.
I have read that when upgrading the performance on a 3 series E36 (E52)280
the first thing to get is an E50 inlet manifold and then get it mapped, and change the induction and exhaust, (which should be done before the map).
Has anyone here done all this?
