I knew i should of just bought the 328 instead of the 323, at least then i would only have to get the M50 manifold and job done horse power wise. All i can say is BMW must have been gutted they had to de tune their engine to fit in with insurance costs back in the day. A 320 manifold and a single exit system on a 2.5 6 cyclinder, poor engine!!!!

TBH Andy, An M50 manifold, a 328i exhaust system a decent air filter and a remap your 323i will be pushing out 200bhp....

I know, i love the whole idea and will be saving now for the bits! However she is a Nikisol block on 138k it survived the sulphur days but i hope by increasing power thats not going to flare up any compression issues.

I have a 9/1997/R 323i saloon, which had a single exit tailpipe, the garage next door to me has 2 x 1997/R 323i convertibles, 1 black 6/1997 with a single tailpipe, 1 silver 7/1997 with a twin and the bumper trim is a proper twin exit trim, not just a single exit thats been cut out.

I thought it was a bit strange that 1 would be single and the other twin.

There we go! I knew i wasn't going mad.

There were some 323s that had a twin pipe exhaust. I've only seen it on one cabrio before, checked the ETK, and it was correct.
Not sure why exactly, maybe to help the look etc, but a few did leave the factory like that.

    hi there,

i have a early 97 convertible 323 and i have the twin exit on mine, and it also has the solenoid in the boot to open up the flap valve in the tail pipe, but i have removed the solenoid so the flap is always open.

if i keep it i wanna do the m50 conversion, air filter etc etc.

i have a 323i coupe and its a single exit single tailpipe. but while we're on the subject would there be much to gain by fitting the the 328i system?

what sort of costs are we looking at for this? (as you may be able to tell I am new to BMW tuning so am scared to check these prices myself)
