Hi all, can anyone tell me if the 323 restricted 2.5 had a single exit system or a twin exit as standard? As a friend says someone has put a 318 exhaust system on my 323 because its a single exit and the thing makes a real tinny clattering noise when you boot it, cant say its slow though but if i have a 318 system surely this will hold the engine back?

Any help would be swell, ta, Andy

Someone will confirm it, but I believe only the 325 and 328 have the twin exit. the 323 is single.

Yep. The 325 and 328i system from the manifold back will bolt straight on. If you use the 325 cat section, you will need to block up the hole for the lambda sensor. The 328i is a direct fit.

Awsome, cheers guys, did anyone have any thoughts on the tinny clattering noise i get when driving half to full throttle, a specialist suggested a cyclone valve sticking but theres not alot of pressure from the oul cap, not really, and i think the cat is in one piece, when driving it hard the engine howels!! lol???

I would be checking all the heatshields and mounting brackets 1st. Its not unknown for the cats to break up though...

Correct Dave. The 323 compact is a strange beast. The exhaust goes 2 into the cat, to single pipe to the rear box, then a twin tailpipe. IIRC the inner tailpipe has a butterfly valve as well...
I have ever only seen 1 323ti here, they were never officially sold in britain...

As far as I know, the 323i shared the same single exhaust with the 320i.

The 318i used a different exhaust - that might explain why it's acting up.

As a dull but further fact to add, the 323 cabrio was also given the twin exit exhaust.

edit - not all... must have only been a certain few, maybe the end of the run?
I remember someone mentioning it, and it did tally with the ETK...
can't find it now, but be aware!
