Decats are an MoT failure so can be a pain in the butt. Make sure your exhaust system is in good condition, if the OE cat is present and in good nick fit a decent quality cat back system. If the OE cat is shot or it has a cheap replacent fitted, then maybe consider a race cat, but they are expensive. Fit a proper enclosed cold air induction kit, not an open cone filter-trust me this will cost you power. Before you start buying performance parts, don't forget the basics. Fresh spark plugs, good ignition leads, Decent oil, and a good general state of maintenance. These all make a small contribution. Also try Shell V Power unleaded. Definitely improves my M44.

Ive just looked at the vin plate and it says that the production date for the car is 11/1994 so would this be just a send out jobbie? and if it did have ews but i put in the chip u would send out, would it affect the car in any way??

June/july build date in 1995 would mean it has EWS, so just sending out and plugging in a new chip wouldn't work in this case unless you can get hold of some decent diagnostics to sync the immobiliser.

You should be pre-EWS, but if you can get me the numbers from the ECU case, that will identify the chip that will be inside, and from that, I will be able to confirm if it has EWS or not.
For a non EWS car, it should be a simple case of posting you a chip which you'll be able to fit in about 20-30 mins.

It's behind the fuse box and battery in the engine bay.
There's a plastic panel on the bulkhead, and it is in a little cubby hole there.
