    Ive got a 1995 318ti compact with the m42 enine. i was wondering what type of easy/cheap mods can i do to to maximise performance. ive already lowered it 40mm put m3 wheels on it with a sports exhaust. any help would be appreciated

    the e30 318is used to respond well to a bigger throttle body and a remap presumably these are the same also a decent panel filter eg itg will help a bit.

    Take the funnel out the air filter box makes em sound better and feels more responsive could be placebo effect but give it a try

    A chip is possible, but there may be EWS issues.
    If you have EWS, I might need to have your ECU to get the EWS serial number out of it. If it was built before 1/95, it won't have EWS, and it can be a simple post out job.
    There's about 10-15bhp to be had, maybe more, and priced at £60 posted for a regular non EWS car.
    If you have EWS, it might be best to post the ecu to me (unless you are passing Birmingham) and I'll be able to extract the serial number and copy it over into a new chip, total cost £65 which includes recorded postage back for the ECU.

    Ok thanks. would i ge any noticeable speed gains with the chip u reckon? also would it change the fuel consumption cz dont really wanna do too much thats going to rape my fuel.lol plus i think the car was made around june july time i think.

    No obvious changes to MPGs, and it should add a few MPH onto your top speed too if you get a long enough road to test it.
    June/july build date in 1995 would mean it has EWS, so just sending out and plugging in a new chip wouldn't work in this case unless you can get hold of some decent diagnostics to sync the immobiliser.

    is there anyway to swap to better manifolds ie inlet or exhaust.. maybe a decat or sports cat too would i be wrong in thinking that?
