Just after some "cheap" advice regarding tuning my 97 318 IS Coupe E36 with the M44 engine.
Its had a hard previous life and has lost some of its ponies along the way.
Before starting a massive overhaul to rebuild the top end, I would rather get some advice to possibly perk it up a little without forking out a fortune.
Currently the only thing that is not standard is the back muffler, which is only on thanks to a higher than average speed bump ripped off the back box.
So here the deal.
Is there a way for me to clean up the acceleration vs top speed without having to go all boy racer on my car?
At the moment I am litterly stamping on the floor in 3rd going up hills to maintain an average 50/60 mph.
My previous 318 and its bigger 328 sister never seemed to have these issues, where as this one does.
Also every now and again the car doesnt want to fire, it spins the motor wanting to, but not enough fuel, or when it does fire, without hitting the gas, the revs drop.
I've checked the IDC which is clean, cleared the EGR vavles, replaced the usual sparks and even checked the pickup and air sensors, all to no avail.
If anyone is able to throw me some advice, would be much appreciated.
But would rather not start swapping injectors for the 2.8's etc.
Only real mod im thinking of, is swapping the huge cat on this to a smaller expansion chamber.
Thanks in advance.
