I've not long purchased a 2009 E91 325d. The car has the 3ltr diesel engine although in a slightly detuned mode from the more popular 330d - power = 197hp & torque = 400nM versus the 330d power of 231hp & torque figure of 520nM.

I have been told elsewhere that I can:

    a) get a chip or map to upgrade to the same level of power & torque as a standard 330d.
    OR
    b) install an uprated chip or map for a 330d - which uprates power closer to +/-290hp & 580nM

I'm not sure what the difference is between the two engines - I can't imagine BMW build two different types of 3ltr diesel engine (twin turbo version aside!)...

What are your thoughts on the options; are they viable? And, which do you advise? Who is considered the best for maps or chips?

My main reason for change is the requirement of an increase in torque for towing - I don't care about power and would put up with a reduction in mpg... (please don't say - you shoulda bought a 330d or 335d!! The extra £3k for the 330d seemed too much IMHO...)

    Thanks in advance........

You Might want to look at some kind of plug and play tuning boxes as well been as you will have a BMW warranty to think about mate.
    Just a thought

I may be wrong here but as far as I'm aware there is no decent plug & play devices available for a 2009 325D as yet. None of my customers or that of Viezu Technologies have ever had a problem regarding warranty after a remap. So If after more torque the only option is a remap. I can however double check if you wish, to see if the V-switch is available for this model. Just incase I've missed something.

i would say give it to a tuning company that knows what there doing, there map it in, and have it running properly, looks like u found one (aptuning) i would never trust the plug in an play stuff, nothings been ste up propperly, prob do more harm then good, just my opinion

I know a friend who is running a 335d on a tuning box from DTUK http://www.diesel-performance.co.uk/ and it runs great. They have a few plug and play systems that work on those cars. Multi channel plugging into the turbo pressure sensor as well as the rail pressure from what i remember.

Check them out, he is a very helpfull guy and doesnt sell crap
