Just purchased above 4 weeks ago previous cars being 2 x C Class 220 d Mercedes. Joined the forum first articles read were on remapping with results of improved fuel consumption and smoother running with some increase in power. Being a pensioner this was of interest if it was a way of saving a bit on fuel costs.
As the threads I had read mentioned one of the forum members Motechmike I decided to contact him via pm's and finally made the decision to have my car remapped. Being from North Yokshire he suggested I booked in with his coleague Wayne who was situated in Leeds.
Last week I drove to Leeds, introduced myself to Wayne who set about immediately to remap the car filling me in with all the details has the process progressed and after about 1 hour the job was finished after which we did a quick road test.
WOW unbelievable the smoothness, the extra power with immediate response, even in higher gears less need to change down to accelerate. I was shocked.
Since then over the last week I have travelled 669 miles round Derbyshire and East Yorkshire at an unbelievable 58.6 miles per gallon. I must admit I am only a 70 mph driver on the motorways but to have that extra power when you need it what a bonus.

I just can not thank Mike enough for having the time to explain remapping to an old codger and to Wayne in Leeds who has done a fantastic job.

Congrats, it sounds like a great improvment. There is certainly a lot of postive feedback around Motekmike remaps on here.

I am keen on a remap and also have 320d Msport though it is an auto. Does anyone know if there is any negative issues remapping an auto? Also, a little paranoid about the map being picked up at service and having my warranty made void, is this realistic or just me being overly cautious?

Any thoughts or experiance either way would be much appreciated.

    Cheers folks

No negative probs with remapping auto's, but the high mileage auto boxes are prone to go after around 80K but this isn't always the case. My own e46 330D had a new gearbox at around 85K.
So at the end of the day it really is worth getting a remap on your car.

Just think about driving round with no insurance if you do not declare your modification. Not sure how many companies actually insure mapped cars. My brother declared his GT TDI Golf and has difficulty insuring his car. He is in his middle thirties and has a clean license. The upside is the mpg and performance but you can spend more than what you save on fuel buying insurance in his case. The auto box is good for a map as my friend has a new Alpina twin turbo diesel auto and has it up to 240bhp. It copes fine and goes like a bat out of hell. Good look hope this is ok info for you.

A Remap would almost certainly invalidate your warranty. In fact, it would be hard to think of a better way of doing so. As far as detection goes, a Remap would only be found if specifically looked for. Having said that, should you be unfortunate enough to be involved in a serious, (expensive from the Insurers point of view) accident. They may very well do just that!

I have declared my map to my insurers, a few insurers out there are used to it.
My dealer has not identified my map, but the service team are aware as it was picked up on a recent test drive ! Their view is pretty tolerant, reckoning that a a fair few of the privately owned cars they see have been mapped, and even a few leased ones.
