    Evening All,

Having not done much to the motor over the past few months, I'm getting itchy feet over what to do next....

So I've decided that a new exhaust is in order, as it's an oil-burner it doesn't sound that great so it needs a new soundtrack!!

I've had a look on Evolve Automotive & the Eisenmann (Race) exhaust looks a good option? (£650ish).

Does anyone have any thoughts on alternatives? I appreciate being a 320d, I'm not going to see the biggest performance gains (I've already had it remapped) but i'm more interested in the noise & looks?

    All comments greatly appreciated...

    Gareth.

I've got a full stainless system from the turbo back from Eco tune Scotland, cost £450 fully fitted. I'm pretty happy with it although when you are giving it some welly it is a wee bit loud for my taste, no problems on smaller throttle openings. Comes with a lifetime warranty.
I'm sure there will be someone near you who can make an exhaust if the Eco tune one doesn't suit.

    Cheers for the reply,

Whats the likely performance gain for my 320d?

I'm also really keen on getting the noise right, I don't want it to sound ridiculous, but do want it to turn a few heads with a healthy dose of the right foot!

That's why I'm quite keen on the Eisenmann, not sure if I should opt for the "Sport" or "Race" box though.
The "Sport" is described as "like stock but with a deeper bass line" and the "Race" as "Louder than stock with an exotic noise at high rpm".

What's your thoughts on the Eisenmann set-up?

My Eco tune exhaust is slightly louder than standard, when driving normally it's quiet but sink your foot and it starts to roar a bit, not excessively but quite a bit louder than the standard exhaust. That said, my wife has never noticed the noise increase so it can't be that bad.
When i bought the exhaust i just got the 'standard' decat system, at the time they did say if i wasn't happy i could come back and add/remove a silencer to get any sound i wanted. I may go back in the summer months and get another silencer added to the mid section to reduce the noise a little at full chat.
If your looking for a full system i'd definately go to a specialist to get one made, here in the Glasgow area there are at least 6 exhaust makers and all say they can make any type of exhaust as loud or quiet as you want. If you just want a cat back exhaust i'd consider an off the shelf item.
I have a 190bhp (allegedly) remap along with the exhaust, i'm pretty happy with it but i do think that the 190 figure may be a little optimistic. Having said that the acceleration in 3rd and 4th gear is ridiculous!! Economy? normal daily driving about 49mpg (summer) and about 44mpg (winter).

maybe its bit odd but i see pointless spend money on exhaust for diesel - they will never sound right - you have diesel car for a reason - stick to it.

    Jankes - fair point.....

However I have a remapped 320d thats both quicker & more frugal than a standard 320i, what's the harm in trying to improve the way it sounds, I fully understand that its never going to sound like an petrol V8!

Surely anything is better than standard though?

I agree it won't sound like a tuned petrol car but that's not why i bought it, tbh i'd rather it sounded like the factory exhaust. I bought it for two reasons, firstly, the exhaust was blowing and due for replacement, secondly, getting rid of the cat is one of the best mods you can do to this car in my opinion.
If i was to buy again i'd only buy the decat section, that way the car would still be quiet and would have the ability to rev nearly as freely as a petrol car.

    motechmike,

Whats the best price you could do me on a rear back box & exhaust?

What sort of bhp gains would i expect?

    Gareth.
