Hi Guys. I'm considering a remap for my motor. It's a 2004 E65 730d. I've been reading nothing but great things, but would also like to know if anyone can share their experience around the larger bmw's (530d, 730d).

I'm interested in both performance and fuel economy, as well as anything else people might suggest!

Anything I should consider, i.e. condition of engine, additional issues etc..

    Cheers

In short you have already found the answers you have been looking for. Remaps are great as long as they are done correctly. And most people would never look back after having a remap. On diesels particulary you'll get better fuel consumption along with power which is easier to use through the rev range. The car will also feel more responsive. Of course things like mileage should always be considered, no point installing a full on performance map on a high mileage car without expecting something to give! So a mild remap would then suffice. Always worth making sure the brakes are in good working order to help stop you what with having extra power to deal with.
In all as long as the vehicle is maintained well and the remap is good then you wont have any problems other than things going wrong that would normally go wrong even as a standard car.

Cheers mate. Its done 97k miles, but has always been maintained as per book. It's on the conditional based servicing, and everything is green at the moment!

Even with more power, I doubt I'd rag it all the time... just occasionally! No, to be honest, the additional fuel economy interests me as much as the extra power. Having a bit more of both sounds like Xmas coming round again!

Any good recommendations in my neck of the woods (Leicestershire)?

Not that i'm trying to sell to you (as i'm not allowed to at the moment) but i'm down in Kent so probably a bit far for you. You could try simon at emaps as I think he's somewhere around that way (please correct me if i'm wrong).
If I can be of any further contact on 07738236577 in a day or so when i'm back as a bimmerforums sponsor.

Note to mods: Hope what i've said hasn't infringed any rules!

I'm not far from you in Birmingham, but I can travel to you if that is easier.
You've just scraped in with the forum member discount for members of longer that 3 months making it £235 here in Birmingham, or £265 if you'd like me to travel to you.

Power increases can be up to approx 35bhp depend on the balance of power and economy you are after. A full power map won't lose you any MPG, you will have a slight gain, but it can be tuned for a mix of more MPG and less power if needed.

THanks AP and TheEnd - top advice! And both really honest too!! Brums not too far away from me, and I most certainly like the idea of some discount too ;-). AP - thanks for recommedation of emaps too.

I'll do a little more reading, and checking in with the missus, before taking the plunge. This sounds like a win win situation.
