Hi, we have a 320TD compact sport and the turbo was changed about 18 months ago, when I got the car there was a slight turbo whine as your started to come on the power then it whent away after that. The weekend I put on a blank EGR, took the flapts out and then removed the first cat and cut open the second cat and turned it into a silencer. When I went for a drive I then noticed this turbo whine was there all the time, from say pull away to 4000rpm. Have any of you had this kind of issue after any of these mods? the misses even thinks the car is slower now I have taken the cats off

"Almost" sounds like the turbo is spinning up easier hence the increased noise? What was the mileage when you had the turbo changed and what is it at now?

The turbo was done buy the last owner about 18 months ago and the car had done arond 15k on it, when I got the car a couple of weeks ago there was a very slight whine as the turbo spooled up and then it sounded ok after that, now the de-cat has been fitted it makes the noise all the time while on boost, I also removed and de-flaped the inlet manifold and fitted a blank EGR valve.
I did all the work before I drove it but was thinking it was probrally the de-cat that has caused the issue. The turbo was recond buy Essex turbo's.

Maybe cause the turbo is hitting boost spikes faster because the cat has been removed . When i removed the cat i had boost spikes . The ecu detects the boost spike and backs the vnt actuator of the turbo off . Stops the turbo from over boosting causing damage . I had the car remapped , cause we were pushing the turbo high .I changed the map sensor to a 3bar cause the turbo spikes were going off the scale of the 2.5 bar sensor . The guy who remapped the car said there was not much point with a decat unless you were running over 200bhp.
