any modifications you make to the car should be declared if you don't and you have accident then the insurer may not pay up.

When I say any mods this goe for getting larger non bmw wheels to changing the inside of your car like getting different pedals and to icreasing performance like exhausts etc.

Some insurers will not insure you regardless of the mods you are doing so sometimes you might have to look for a decent insurer for quite some time.

Esure wouldn't insure me when I told them my new car had 19" wheels as they were not standard fit for the car. Norwich union wanted to charge me £1200 a year if it had been stardard bmw rims then it would have been £500.

Some insurers don't even care if you have had mods done.

unless you've got access to a ramp, good tools and possibly even a gas torch i'd say take it to a garage,if you try to undo the bolts and they round off then you'll end up need heat anyway, plus some backboxes aren't a direct fit replacement to an OEM system and will require the original to be cut off and the new one fitted using a sleeve section. fitting aftermarket boxes onto original systems can be a real pain in the arse even for us qualified fitters! that said you might be lucky and find it all comes apart and fits on like a childs meccano set,but best not to risk it!

In my opinion if you want it fitted cheap then don't take it to ATS,Kwik-fit and the like unless you know them as they'll simply charge you a full labour rate plus VAT and if you're a stranger may refuse to do it as a 'private' job,the companies employ people whose job it is to walk into centres and try to get private jobs done as a test to make sure their centres are working to the rules!

    Take it to an independent

oh and i forgot to add,if you do have access to cutting tools, gas cutters etc do NOT attempt to use them without knowing what you're doing, the last thing you want is a car/workshop/house fire,1st degree burns and/or death
